The Roche Colorado Corp. Technology Center is one of the finest and most innovative chemical technology centers in the nation. It was specifically designed for the research and development of pharmaceutical products and was intended as a state-of-the-art facility, not only in terms of technology but also in the creation of an attractive, stimulating laboratory and office environment.
John Priebe, principal at the abo group, worked extensively with the administrative and laboratory users to ensure a comprehensive understanding of the Project’s goals, both functionally and aesthetically. A major result of this interaction was the development of the innovative “central utility spine” which organizes all of the necessary services to the laboratories along a common service spine. This, along with careful placement of equipment inside the laboratories, has resulted in an unprecedented flexibility. The lab layouts can be modified to accommodate new research program requirements.
The Technology Center houses 12 distinct laboratories including research and development laboratories, an analytical lab and pilot lab. Researchers have direct access to their labs from adjacent office areas placed at the perimeter of the building to capitalize on spectacular views and natural daylighting. Administrative offices surround an attractive central atrium space at the front of the Technology Center.
Since 1982, the firm has provided on-going design services through numerous expansions and renovations of this facility.
