the abo group was awarded this contract from the Department of Labor to create a prototype design for four new dormitories located on the Job Corps campus in Clearfield, Utah. The firm completed full services for the construction of the first two dorms. The campus is an existing 34-acre site for the training of teenage Job Corps volunteers who learn skills in a wide variety of technical and construction trades. The prototypical dormitory features elements that reflect the existing materials and scale of the original dormitory built in the mid-1990s. The majority of students attending the Clearfield Job Corps Center are from inner city communities, and the relationships they form are integral to the successful completion of their training programs. A goal of the design was to offer students multiple opportunities to interact casually and to provide various spaces for study, recreation, and leisure.
